Tigers Eye
Tiger Eye is part of the Quartz family. This stone consists of slanting fibers of Crocidolite which has been replaced by silica. The stones can be described as that of a vertical glow like band similar to that of a cat’s eye. Hence, it is how it got its name. This very unique gemstone has a rich yellowish to golden brown stripe like with a fine golden luster.
Tiger Eye has also been known as “Crocidolite cat’s-eye” or “African Cat’s-eye”. It can also have different spelling i.e. tiger’s-eye and tiger eye. Tiger Eye gemstone can be found in
South Africa, with the best stones coming from the region of
Griqualand
West.
There or other various forms of Tiger Eye, each with their own unique names. For example, Tiger Eye, Hawk's-eye is similar to tiger eye. The main difference is that the Crocidolite was replaced by quartz.
Tiger Eye has played an important role in history of time. The
Roman soldiers wore tiger's-eye as protection during battle. Tiger Eye was believed to have the ability to be all perceive due to its unique appearance. Tiger Eye is said to do away with the ‘blues’. Other beliefs include lower blood pressures, psoriasis, and bronchial asthma to just name a few.
As a jewelry piece, Tiger Eye continues to be widely used as a pendant. This is where its features are best displayed.
